Carla Danielson   Child's Chair

How it all began...

In the Spring of 2001 our youngest son, Andy, graduated from high school. That told us it was time to put our house with 2 1/2 acres just outside of Colfax, WA on the market and head for open spaces. Hooper meant 70 acres for our horse training business, and a house with a big wrap around porch. I started looking for bent willow furniture for that porch (pictured below), with not a great deal of success. Being kind of crafty, and always willing to try something new, I bought a book and started another " I can do that " project. I skipped the beginners projects and went straight to the Gypsy Chair and Loveseat. I loved it!

The impact of an intimacy with nature gained through eleven years living in the Alaskan bush as a hunter-gatherer deeply influenced my work. Thrust fully into the rhythms of the natural world, I was able to observe the balance and timing of nature; the asymmetry yet utter perfection of beauty. Through total immersion in a spectacular but often very dangerous environment, I learned attunement. At a time when America was becoming fast-track, I was wholly dependent on my skills of observation and insight, discipline and completion

TRAPPER CREEK RUSTICS

I am a resident of Trout Lake Washington; but, grew up in upstate New York, spending most of my free time in the Adirondack mountains. My work reflects the “North Woods” look or “Adirondack” style of the old “Great Camps” of that area. Furniture and decorations for these camps were made from material gathered from the woods in the area. Although this style originated in the East, I feel it blends well with the equally rustic style and feel of the West and Southwest. The purpose of my work is to create a feeling or connection with nature by using natural material found in this area to produce pieces of furniture and decorations for use in the home. To me, today’s style of furnishings will eventually fade away, but the “rustic” style will always be here.. My work is self taught and I use unique pieces of branches, twigs, bark or antlers, blending in harmony to create these pieces of work. A major inspiration for me has been reading books written and photographed by Ralph Kylloe, who is an expert in the field of rustic artistry and also Daniel Mack, a leader in the rustic movement. My work is currently being displayed in galleries and shops in the Northwest in places such as Bend and Sisters Oregon, also, The Dalles and Hood River

Keith at work on a chairKeith Keyser

“Functional art,” “heirloom quality,” “elegant,” “whimsical.”  That’s how clients typically describe my rustic wood creations.  My name is Keith Keyser, and I’m a wood artisan who specializes in handcrafted furniture and home décor that celebrate the natural form and character of distinctive hardwoods.  I make one-of-a-kind occasional chairs, rockers, small tables, benches, loveseats, headboards, mirrors and clocks; I create my own designs and also do commissioned work.  I’m often told the style of my creations blends well with a wide variety of decors because it is elegant in its form and proportion, yet still natural and inviting.
As an avid environmentalist, I remain committed to utilizing sustainable harvested, salvaged and reclaimed woods; I typically know their exact origin and often a bit about the people who owned the trees before they became "reborn" as furniture.  With great respect for that material, I strive to create pieces that are pleasing to the eye and the touch and (in the case of seating surfaces) are comfortable as well.
Thanks for your interest in my work.  I invite you to peruse my website (www.keithsrusticwoodcreations.com ) by clicking on my name.  I welcome the opportunity to craft a unique heirloom-quality creation that suits your taste or passion.

A warm welcome to our new web site and thank you for visiting! We usually sell our furniture at art shows & galleries and are frequently told by clients and artists that our rustic/natural furniture is the best they have ever seen anywhere. They say it is obvious we put our heart into our work and that it has a certain discernible spirit about it. If this is true, it is a gift from the real Creator, and because wetake the time  to do it right.  We will let our designs speak for themselves - and my five sons , who have
used and abused our personal furniture, attest to its durability. If our furniture is placed in your home  and subject to normal use, it will last for generations. We make CHAIRS, LOVESEATS, ROCKERS,BENCHES, BEDS, TABLES, CHAISE LOUNGES AND MORE! We welcome CUSTOM ORDERS. Much of our work is one of a kind. So please take the time to scroll down thru the pages of our site. We would be honored if you chose to place some of our pieces in your home. Enjoy!!
