New York's Rustic Furniture Makers page 3 Matthew Reese, owner of Rustic Roots combines contemporary design with a rustic flair to create a unique line of one of a kind and matched sets of furniture. His designs are enhanced by hand cut joinery and a selection of fine woods. Matthew also travels to Belize each year where he hand selects rare tropical hardwoods from waste-wood piles destined to be smoke and ash preserving them as priceless works of art. ![]() Michael Kazlo of Adirondack Mountain Rustic handcrafts heirloom quality rustic mirrors, frames, shelves and furniture using materials provided by nature. He builds each piece using a variety of woods including, oak, pine, birch and red twig dogwood. Roots, twigs and bark are just a few of the natural materials that take on new life with a purpose. All of his pieces are original, one of a kind creations. Morris Kopels was born in Germany and immigrated to the US in 1949 at the tender age of 9 months. He was raised in Pittsfield Massachusetts, attended MIT, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His love of the mountains and outdoors moved him to Wyoming where he worked, climbed, hiked , skied, fished, built canoes, and met his Wyoming gal, Nannette. They had two Wyoming girls, Catherine and Rachel. The family returned east to settle in upstate New York. Here Morris continued to work in emergency medicine. In 1999, he began building one of a kind rustic furniture inspired by Jim Howard, Barry Gregson, Barney Belanger, Phil Kellog, Crispin Shakeshaft, and a list of others. Nannette, an accomplished tole and primitive artist would compliment his furniture with paintings.
