I am a remodeling contractor in North Carolina and have been building furniture part time for the past 15 years. I have recently built a home off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Sparta, North Carolina for my wife and I. Being in such a scenic area of North Carolina with the mountains and nature all around us definitely inspires one to add the rustic touch, not to mention the abundance of laurel, oak, ash, hickory and maple trees which I incorporate into my furniture. The rustic elements allow the pieces I make to take on a life of their own and the finished product seems to just evolve. I spend a lot of my time in the woods searching for just the right branches and logs that make the perfect chair arms or bench seat. I am currently building a new workshop to one day go full time in my rustic career.
